Reading Scripture:
Psalm 69:5 "You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you." God's amazing willingness to let us go on our way when He knows everything about us is a sign of his graciousness. The prodigal son asked for his inheritance and the father gave it to him long before he would have to. The son left town, broke off communication, and squandered what he had been given. Coming to realize he had it better at home, even if he was a slave in his father's house, he returns. When judgment would be expected, the father opens his arms and welcomes him home. God knows our wandering ways in life and the blessings we take for granted. Unlike the father in the parable, he knows and sees what we do as the Psalmist writes, yet he still welcomes us home. "Amazing Grace" we sing. "Amazing" - because it is so unexpected that God could care so much.
